Volunteers play a vital role in preparing for, responding to and recovering from an emergency situation or natural disaster. Across the nation, most local emergency management departments such Westbrook Emergency Management, are typically staffed with a paid director with the remaining members who volunteer their time with support services.
Before, during and/or after a disaster, Westbrook Emergency Management may find it necessary to activate specialized teams to handle a wide range of emergency events and situations. The type and number of teams and volunteers activated depends entirely on the circumstances.

Westbrook Emergency Management provides free training and retention programs to enhance your skills. Prior to joining our team, we meet with prospective candidates. They are provided with opportunities within the department, based upon their interests and capabilities.
Disaster volunteers will most likely encounter adverse conditions. You can encounter long hours under stressful conditions. It’s important for our volunteers to be flexible and have a ‘team player’ attitude, as well as be in good mental and physical health.
